Course Description:

Attendees of the Law of Lending for Manitoba Credit Unions will gain a strong understanding of the laws that govern the lending activities of credit unions in the Province of Manitoba. The materials will be presented in a manner that incorporates real-life lending examples and scenarios, including recounts of the presenter’s lending experiences. While the namesake of the course is lending law, discussions will focus on the application of that body of law through the use of applicable documentation and procedures.

  • Lending to corporations: Who are the parties involved?    
  • Guarantors versus principal borrowers.
  • The power of a general security agreement.
  • Registrations against serial numbered goods.
  • Understanding purchase money security interests.
  • The benefits of title insurance.

Facilitator:

Brooks Mack is a practicing lawyer in the Provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, calling Langenburg, Saskatchewan, home. His practice includes corporate and commercial law, real estate and estate matters, with a particular focus on secured lending and secured debt enforcement. Since 2010, Brooks has served clients in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and through his own law practice, commencing in 2014. Prior to returning home to Saskatchewan, Brooks practiced in Calgary at a multinational law firm.
